Exhibition: “Meet the Artist at Kobo Gallery”
Meet the Artist Event: Tuesday, November 19; 3-5p.m.
Gallery Hours: Monday-Saturday, 10:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Sunday, 11:00 – 5 p.m.
Fiber and bead artist, Doris Grieder, will be at Kobo Gallery to discuss her recent work during this meet the artist event.
Also on display will be the works of 14 additional gallery members.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE ARTIST:
Doris grew up in Switzerland and was taught to knit and sew at an early age. At 21 a bend in life’s road brought her to the US and for many years fiber work remained dormant. In the nineties Doris started quilting. With queen sized ambitions she made a bedspread with over 1600 pieces, all hand sewn and quilted! Regarding that project she has said, ”only perseverance got me through this four-year project”.
Later, appliqued wall hangings gave her more opportunity to be creative and her work was exhibited in international shows.
Doris said that “the nineties revolutionized threads and fibers in Europe”. As business afforded her travel internationally, she started collecting yarns and fibers for the joy of owning them and she relished the possibilities of future projects.
Once retired, there was no stopping the “fiber seeds” she planted over decades of collecting. She has found a unique way of creating scarves and accessories using her “stash”. Embellishing wearable art with beads opened another world of creativity – beaded jewelry. All the childhood years of loving and dreaming to work with fibers and crafting have now become a reality.
